Puffing Billy locomotive
The Puffing Billy is the initial Locomotive in the game and, therefore, has no Level Requirement nor Research Requirement to Craft.

During travel, it produces a great deal of smoke and spits out soot, but it's low-priced in service.

Although, Rocket locomotive is generally more efficient, it may be a good idea to keep it in depot as a spare locomotive at the early stage of the game.

While it is not suitable to transport Passengers, it may transport most Cargo but is limited to only one Small Carriage or the special event Christmas Carriage.

3 levels of Research may be conducted to increase Speed & Reliability:

Blueprints Time-icon Speedup-icon
Leafspring 25 0:00:00 0 Blueprints
Wheelpair 35 00:10:00 5 Blueprints
Sturdy-fastener 40 00:30:00 5 Blueprints

Rocket Unlock

In order to Research and Craft the Rocket locomotive, you must have completed Research on the Leaf Spring Leafspring for the Puffing Billy.

The # of Carts, Efficiency, Reliability, Speed & Chance to obtain items ratings are approximations based upon the in-game bar graphs for each:

Craft/Upgrade Train-length-icon Capacity-icon Reliability-icon Speed-icon Chance-icon
Crafting-icon 5 Steel-icon 2 Nut 3 Screw 1 180% 150 100% 10%
Leafspring 1 Tack 1 Spring 1 Cylinder 1 180% 200 100% 10%
Wheelpair 1 Nut 1 Spring 1 Cylinder 1 180% 200 110% 10%
Sturdy-fastener 1 Tack 1 Spring 1 Rope 1 180% 400 110% 10%

Maintenance & Dismantling

The Puffing Billy may fall into disrepair and require Maintenance; The frequency of Maintenance required is based upon its Reliability Reliability-icon.

Required Time-icon Speedup-icon
1 Spring 00:30:00 1,000 Silver-icon

A Puffing Billy may be Dismantled for random Parts determined by its level of Upgrade:

Upgrade Level Possible Parts
None or Partial Nut Tack Screw Spring Cylinder
Fully Upgraded Nut Tack Screw Spring Cylinder
